Canaan Downs, Abel Tasman National Park

Canaan Downs

Driving from Motueka to Takaka we turned into a gravel road that lead right into the Abel Tasman National Park. On the End of the Road there is a DOC Camping Spot for 6$ a night on which we decided to stay. The road was quite adventurous whith a lot of potholes and stones in our way but was totaly worth it in the end! We went for the Harwoods Hole and viewpoint walk into Abel Tasman.

The walk went through the Abel Tasman National Park and was quite adventurous.

We had to climb over oddly shaped rocks and beautifully washed out stone paths.

We decided to climb up to the lookout first, to have a picknick up there. We thought it was just a normal viewing plattform. After climbing up a stone slope we reached Stone Platform.

The oddly shaped stones were washed out by rain and snow and had channels between them that were up to 2 Meters deep. We climbed up all the way to the very front.

The view was breathtaking. There was nothing under the stones besides meters and meters of free fall. It is not possible to capture the true beauty and the views on a picture, eventhough we did try. We spent at leat 5 Minutes stumbeling "Woooooow"'s trying to grasp how amazing it was.
The picknick turned out to be a bit of a problematic task, since we had to find a spot to sit comfortably on the stones, but we did it in the end and munched along on our peanut butter jelly sandwiches.

Next stop was Harwoods Hole. The walk down was a little rocky and you had to climb cleverly over the rocks. Now if you know me, you know that I am not a particular agile person, so I ended up stumbeling over the rocks, trying my best to not fall for the sake of my camera.

Reaching Harwoods Hole I have to say it was a little intimidating,  every noise had an echo and in front of us was just this incredibly deep black Hole. No matter how hard we tried, we could not even see the ground. It was left to our imagination how deep it truly was.

If you ever happen to be near the Canaan Downs, make sure to stop by and walk the track! It is truly beautiful!

On the Map: Red Cicle is the Canaan Down Carpark, Yellow Cicle is the Woolshed Cafe!

Right on next to the street leading to the Canaan Downs is the "Woolshed Cafe" Which is a small Cafe in a shed. They make an awesome English Breakfast for 10$ (for two persons) and the best Banana Cake I ever had so far (including my homemade Banana Bread).

It was my fist time trying scones and I have to say, I loved it! They were warm and the jam was just
delicious. The Owners were just the nicest and they had free wifi!
Just outside are animals that you can visit and may even pet. All in all it was the cutest and most delicious Cafe I visited so far in New Zealand!
