Hokitika, New Zealand

As any other place in New Zealand Hokitika has lots to offer besides a name that no one can pronounce and remember properly. If you are into Kiwis and you wanna see one really badly, you can do so here. Hokitika is home to the National Kiwi Center, but seeing that Matt and I are travelling in a tight budged we decided not to spend 32$ a person just to see a Kiwi.
There are way better things to spend your money on like fish and chips (or for me veggie roll and chips, yeayh to all the vegans out there).
We focused more on the free stuff to do, which so far turned out to be the way more awesome stuff anyways. There are a few mayor things you should check off when in Hokitika and it is quite simply stunning.

Hokitika Gorge

The Hokitika Gorge is more beautiful than any picture could ever show completely. It has this milky blueish-green to it, like you mixed too much white with blue when drawing with water color. Simply unreal.

It was raining for a few days before we visited so the locals said it would probably not be as awesome, but still worth it and it was more than that! I can't see how this would get any more perfect and beautiful, but it apparently is possible.

The ones brave enough to face the sandflies can climb up onto the very front of the rocks and take a look at the water close up.

A local told us that the water is that color because of the "stone flour" ground up stone is being washed out by rivers that come from clear springs, therefore you have the clean blue and the white. looking back it did look like someone put a ton of flour into the water.

Dorothy Falls

After that we drove to lake Kaniere ti explore it's surroundings, the Dorothz falls were definitely the high light. I fell in love with the sound they made (as far as you can fall in love with a sound, but you get what I am saying, right?)

We messed around on the rocks and ran around like little kids having fun on a playground.
If you get the chance, make sure to visit the Dorothy falls, it is a truly magical place

Lake Kaniere

Now lake Kaniere wasn't really that special, but I did really enjoy to just sit on a bench that was stood inside of the lake and unwind for a bit.

We had an amazing time taking a break and having some snacks watching the calm lake and just enjoying the sounds of nature!

The Hokitika Gorge was definitely my favorite, so make sure to visit it and bring some time (and your Camera, duh).
And that's it for today's blogpost!
