What to visit on the road from Farewell Spit to Takaka

After visiting The Farewell Spit we made our way back down to Takaka. On the drive back we made some excursions to attractions that were close by.

Cape Farewell

Cape Farewell might be one of the northernest points of New Zealand. Surrounded by steep cliffs and grass overgrown hills the Cape is a true Beauty.

We messed around running up and down the hills trying to take the perfect picture of us with the awesome background. It was a beautifully warm and sunny day.

In the process Matt took some pretty awesome pictures.

The view was breathtaking, if we hadn't had breakfast just before we left for the Cape we would have had a good picknick right there!

We met a friendly local who took a few pictures for us, I've learned that you can ask a lot of people, especially here in New Zealand and they will be glad to take a picture for you and most of them do know a little something about photography and leave you with awesome pictures.

Whariki Beach

On the street to Cape Farewell is a sideroad to Whariki Beach, since I am a sucker for pretty beaches we decided to give it a go.

Arriving at the Parking spot this cute cafe greeted us! It had little hammocks and the cutest tables you can imagine.

Allthough I did get a little scared when the peacock started chasig after me (no inappropriate giggeling here please).

The beach was a 20 Minute walk away from the parking spot, the track was sandy and went right through hills and dunes.

White sand covered the very windy beach. It was beautiful, the sea was studded with cliffs and stones, on some even grew a wildlife.

If you are at the right place at the right time you can even see seal pups, sadly we weren't able to.

Kaihoka Lakes

We did visit the Kaihoka lakes as well, it was a long drive and the lakes were pretty unimpressive, it was a nice walk through the bushes of a rainforest though, but definitely not worth the drive down there!

Don't get me wrong it still was a nice walk and the forest is just amazing!

Somewhere between Farewell Spit and Takaka

We originaly stopped because of the Lookout, but when we spotted the little farmers booth we decided to check it out!

The booth had paper bags with fruit in it, mainly apples and pears. Since we did have a lot of apples left (NZ Beauties of course) we decided to get some pears.

The "shop" was based on trust, you just took what you wanted and paid by throwing in some coins into the cashbox. We paid 3$ for a 1 1/2 - 2 kilos of incredibly delicous and sweet pears.

And the best thing: It actually works, the people in front and after us did pay as well and did not just take off with their fruit. In Germany the booth would be empty in a matter of a few minutes and there would be no money in the box!

And that's it for today. While driving down we listened to an audio book and it was just the most relaxing and beautiful drive we had so far! Onto many more adventures!
