Makarora

Driving from Haast to Wanaka we stopped at some pretty awesome spots that I just had to share with you!
It was a beautiful sunny day and it was just perfect for our stops!

Blue pools

It took us a while to figure out that the small notches in the rocks are the blue pools, but it was pretty nonetheless!

At first it looked like the water was just a meter or two deep, but it is waaaay deeper than that and you can see all the way to the ground.

There is a small pebble beach on which visitors started building pebble towers, of course we couldn't resist building some ourselves.

The blue water creates just such a beautiful contrast to the white pebbles and the green forest, it truly is a magical place!

Gates of Haast

You can enter the "Gates" from both sides of the bridge, all though the first side we went to was way prettier!

The river is rushing down in between the rocks so fast that it creates a unique roaring.

You were able to climb down on the rocks and stand in the center of the river which made you feel like being a part of it. Watching the water passing by while hearing nothing but the noise of the water crashing onto the stones was so incredibly relaxing.

Haast Pass lookout

Now that one was quite a challenge. We thought it would be a ten minute track, but it ended up going uphill for nearly an hour. It just kept turning and turning.

I was so happy when we finally reached the top! The view was stunning and definitely worth the boring hike up!

Fantail Falls

When we passed it the first time it looked like the track was closed, but we went back to see if we could make it to the falls anyways and it turned out that only the parking spot was closed.

The falls had a few pools in them which are perfect for bathing in the summer, but obviously it was way to cold. The water however was incredibly clear!

That day I had to realize that I am really bad at skimming stones! And with really bad I mean that I basically just threw them into the water and that's it!

We definitely enjoyed just taking our time and stopping whenever we thought something looks interesting! I cannot wait to find more spots close to the road to explore!

I hope you all enjoyed the post! For more pictures make sure to follow me on my social media, links are in the description.
