Oamaru, the Steampunk-Capitol of New Zealand

When entering Oamaru we thought we would just quickly stop to see the City lookout and the head on further north, but it turned out to be such an awesome steampunk city, that we ended up staying the whole day enjoying its art galaries, that were kinda creepy at times, the little shops in the harbour and of course the steampunk HQ!

The Steampunk HQ was build up like an art Gallery showing all kinds of artifacts.

The inside section did get a little scary and spooky at times, but I truly enjoyed looking at everything and using the interactive exhibition!

The inside part was already pretty cool, but the portal topped it all!

It was a small room in which you pressed a button to start the portal. Music started playing and the lighblubs changed into different kind of colours. It was such a relaxing and beautiful thing to watch!

After the portal we went outside to see the bigger parts of the steampunk HQ and it was so incredibly cool!

All the bits and pieces fittet so perfectly to create an atmosphere as if you were in a different dimension, yet it all had a touch of spontaneity and it all seemed to be randomly perfect.

Definitely make sure to check it out if you get the chance to!

The victorian harbour street was pretty cool as well. In big old storage halls were smaller shops build in and you could wander through and find the cutest handcrafted pieces, from soap to bicycle!

Each of the small shops were locally owned and had only handmade and high quality products for a pretty cheap price. I had to be really carefull to not buy too much souveniers and gifts that will just break while travelling!

My favourite thing was the Germany Bakery, which had a dutch sign (maybe someone got confused with dutch and Deutsch). We bought some german rye bread for 2,50€ and it was delicous, especially with butter and strawberry jam.

Just walking along the harbour you will find the most awesome spots, from old bridges, to mini-libraries and awesome Playgrounds.
