What to visit in Rotorua

After working in Katikati for nearly a month we decided that it was time to move on and explore a little bit more of the north island.

We made our way down to Rotorua, but nor before stopping off at mount Wanganui, which we visited really quickly since it was quite rainy and we decided not to climb it, but the beach in front of it was just as beautiful!

Just before Rototua we visited the Hamurana Springs which are hidden in a stunning reed woods forest.

We walked an hour through a really well kept loop path. The high trees were breath taking and we had to stop a million times just to look up and take in the whole beauty of it all!

We spent sun and sunrise at the lakefront which was the best decision we have made so far! It was beautiful to have breakfast with such an awesome view.

Close by was an ancient Maori Village which had quite a few thermal areas, so it looked like the whole village was steaming.

We visited the old church and took a look at the community hall.

I loved the architecture and the details of the houses.

It all had little glass stones worked into the red painted wood!

I've never thought I would visit a magical lace like this.

The whole day we were able to see a raainbow if the sun was in the right angle.

The Kuirau park in the middle Rotorua had a few more hot pools to visit, so we went for a stroll.

I still can’t believe that the park is kept so beautiful without asking a charge to enter!

It had different kinds and types of pools to offer, from mud to green to simply hot pools, which you of course couldn’t enter.

. Although there was a hot pool for your feet!

After visiting the park we tried to spot the geysir without having to pay 38$ admittance, we saw the steaming park which was close enough for us.

The Rainbow Scenic Reserve left us at aw, we thought we would just see a simple crater lake and that’s it.

Turned out the crater lake had the most beautiful colour and the rocky walls around it made the scenery perfect.

South of it we visited the mud pools, it was basically a bubbly mud pool that is around 60-80°c hot!

We really enjoyed our time in Rotorua, visiting unreal places and seeing all the nature wonders, and the best thing: It was all free!!
