I am sitting at my desk, listening to all the Ed Sheeran songs that spotify has to offer while looking through the pictures I took in Lisbon and since we visited so many amazing places I thought I would give you a quick overlook on what to do and visit in Lisbon!
We arrived at 3pm in our hostel (which I will be mentioning later, it was so amazing it needs a whole paragraph written about it!). It was the perfect time to go for a stroll through the city, 90% of the time we had no idea where we were, but luckily Chrissy hat her google maps and was able to navigate us back to our hostel at any time.
Besides the fact that there is the ocean right in fron of you and you can just sit there and relax while the sun is shining on your face (on that note: wear SPF! especially when you have the water in front of you). If you walk down the promenade (we started at the Parca do comercio and walk towards the Timeout Market Hall) you get into the whole lisbon feeling, meeting lot's of people and getting a drink or two in one of the many booths.
The Timeout Market is a huge market hall filled with all kinds of restaurants, there will be something for everyone, just be aware that the seating spaces are limited, so finding a good spot is hard.
With the ocean in our back we climbed up the steep streets and stairs to get to the most amazing lookout spots, sadly I cannot tell you completely where this picture has been taken, because we were completely lost. It was so great to just let our hearts lead our way through the streets and find a million beautiful things that we got way to excited about.
We bought a day pass for public transport around Lisbon to get to Belem. After trying to get on the tram 15 unsuccessfully because it was so packed we decided to opt for the bus, it was the best decision ever, the bus was faster, air conditioned and nearly empty!
lx factory is a kind of hipster-art-vintage place with different small stores and restaurants. Just walking through it makes you feel like you are in a different space. It has amazing places to get lunch and good shops to do your shopping!
It also has this amazing bookstore that I could spend a lifetime in even most of the books are in Portugese! It is simply amazing, so many books to read and so little time to do so!
There are different sights in Belem that you should definitelly go and have look at. The Mosteiro dos Jeronimos is one of the most beautiful an big buildings I have ever seen, sadly the line was too long to actually get inside. The Torre de Belem has a beautiful Park with local artists in front of it and is just a beautiful place to relax and maybe catch a little shade under the big trees.
And once you are in Belem you can try the Pastel de Belem which is an incredibly delicious Portugese egg tart pastry.
We attemped to walk all the way back to Alfama, but we quickly gave up and drove back with the Bus, since we had the ticket for the whole day, you can buy these in the metro stations by buying a viva viagem card and charge it with the day ticket, this will cost you arround 7€.
The third day was a day filled with soaking up the Lisbon spirits, eating all the good food and taking our time enjoying the sights as much as we could.
We walked up next to the tracks of the famous tram 18 to the flea market, which was an experience.
Once you visited the flea market I reccomend you walking up even higher to reach an incredible viewpoin, yes even better then walking up to the old castle!
The locals told us, that this viewpoint is higher than the castle and therefore you have an amazing view of the castle and I have to say it was even more beautiful than imagined!
Make sure to spend plenty of time up there and really soak up the views, you may eben get a TukTuk ride up and down the hill. And make sure to bring water for this walk, especially if you do this around the midday sun!
We grabbed dinner in the most AMAZING restaurant that evening! The lost in was on our list from the first time we have heard about it and it is on our "To Do Again" list! It was the best curry I have ever eaten in my whole life! Just the right amount of creamy, soooo good. If you ever get the chance to visit Lisbon, make sure to visit the lostin.
And because the next day was so incredibly amazing I will share it in a second post together with our amazing hostel!
